When professional therapy may be important
Professional help may be important when stress is severe, persistent, linked with trauma, affecting safety, sleep, relationships or work, or connected with panic, depression, substance misuse or self-harm thoughts.
How education can sit beside care
Stress-management education can help people understand triggers, practise relaxation and prepare questions for a professional. It should not replace care when clinical support is needed.
Choosing the right pathway
A doctor, psychologist, counsellor, therapist, EAP, crisis service or local emergency service may be appropriate depending on the level of risk and the person’s needs.
